A thermostatically controlled vent door automatically opens when the greenhouse warms, pushing a 12volt radiator fan into the vent to quickly pull overheated air away from your plants. When the sun goes down and the temperature drops, the vent automatically closes and seals off your greenhouse for the night.

This vent has operated reliably on our farm since installation four years ago. If you are moderately handy with tools and wiring, these plans will help you ACQUIRE the parts, BUILD the components, and WIRE the electric circuit to make a fully automated, solar powered cooling system. Tom Rapini is an engineer by education, organic farmer by trade, and perpetual tinkerer by choice. After many times rushing home to open the farm’s Polyhouse on a cloudy-day-turned-sunny, he decided to apply his experience with solar energy systems and build this automated cooling vent. After four years of reliable, solar powered operation, Tom decided to make his idea and plans available to other Greenhouse and Polyhouse owners.
